What Your Electrical Contractor Wants You to Know

Aug 13, 2020

Just because something works from the outside doesn't mean it's right on the inside, especially when it comes to your home or business's electrical systems.

Electricity is something that we take for granted. If the overhead light turns on and we can read the words of the book we're reading, then everything is fine. Right? Not necessarily.

Improper installation, faulty wiring, code violations, obsolete equipment, and inferior workmanship can cause an electrical shock, damage appliance motors or possibly start a fire.

Call a professional electrician if you experience any of these warning signs:

  • your electrical panel keeps tripping
  • there's a jumble of crossed and loose wiring
  • the lights flicker when you use your toaster
  • the outlet isn't flush to the wall and feels hot
  • you hear a buzzing sound and smell an odour

You and your family's comfort and safety are why you should hire a qualified and experienced electrician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and/or upgrade your electrical system.

What to ask when hiring a qualified electrician.

Look for a professional who has completed the mandatory five-year apprenticeship and holds a certificate from the Ontario College of Trades. They're known as a journeyperson electrician.

Check to make sure that the electrical contractor is registered with the appropriate provincial licensing board. For Ontario, it's the Electrical Safety Authority.

Another good rule of thumb when contracting any tradesperson is to ask for references and proof of insurance.

Residential, commercial and industrial electrical services.

As a licensed and fully insured Master Electrician with 18 years of experience, I've seen and done it all. Indoor and outdoor lighting installations, electrical renovations of kitchens and baths, wiring of custom homes, retail and restaurant panel upgrades, and middle of the night emergencies when flexibility and knowledge are crucial.

Knowing that your business and home's electrical system is safe gives you peace of mind, allowing you the freedom to work, play, and relax.
